THE NATIONAL PICTURE
Childhood Obesity: The Government are making children the initial
focus of their newly launched 'Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives' strategy
published on 23 January 2008. Immediate plans include:
- Identifying at-risk families as early as possible and promoting
- breastfeeding;
- Investing to ensure all schools are healthy schools;
- Investing £75 million in an evidence-based marketing programme.
The strategy can be downloaded at www.dh.gov.uk/obesity
A Lancashire note: from the current consultation around agreeing
priorities for children in Lancashire for 2008/09, one of the emerging
priorities is around tackling obesity.
